Gas Tax Repeal Update
Thank you CCTA for joining the Repeal the Gas Tax Team. We are in the process of having our language approved by the Attorney General’s Office, which needs to be completed before we will have your signature packet. Once we receive approval, we can print the signature packets and hit the ground running!
In the initiative process, a number of hurdles must be overcome.
We have just passed our first milestone: the mandatory 30-day period of public comment.
We are now awaiting a preparation of a fiscal review by the Department of Finance and the Legislative Analyst’s Office, which can take up to 50 fiscal days from the date we submitted the initiative language. (Keep in mind that both of these waiting periods are happening at the same time, and we are approaching the maximum allotted time for the Attorney General’s Office to give us our initiative.)
Once I have our fiscal review, packets will be sent out immediately so we can achieve our goal of repealing the gas tax.
I understand how this can be a daunting process, and I want to touch base with all of our incredible supporters and let you know that as soon as the initiative is approved and in our hands, I will be sending your packets out for signature. I hope you will take advantage of this time to line up their ten signatures concretely, so as soon as we receive the initiative we can mail it out for signatures.
